Council leaders in Milton Keynes stop short of opposing controversial new road
The MK Citizen reports “A council’s leaders are “wavering” in their support for a controversial new road that would link Oxford to Cambridge through Milton Keynes.”
In responding to pressure from Cllr David Hopkins (Cons, Danesborough & Walton), the MK Citizen reports “Milton Keynes Council’s leader, Cllr Pete Marland (Lab, Wolverton) said: “We are not absolutely going to oppose it outright at the moment until we understand what the final proposals of the scheme are.
“But we have been very clear as an administration and as a council that we would not support the road being started before the electrified East West Rail line opened and we also need to be shown environmental mitigation.”
At the meeting of the council’s cabinet, he added: “I will write to the secretary of state to outline the council’s wavering support on it if that is helpful.””
MK Council signed a Non-Disclosure Agreement with Highways England to they could discuss potential routes for the proposed Ox-Cam Expressway. The council has previously been big supporters of the scheme but more recently have raised concerns as was reported on 18th July.

Is the increased pressure from the community, on MK Councillors having an impact? It sure looks like it! We need to keep fighting this.

We urgently need your help.
Your donations are needed now, to help us run the campaign and pay for political consultants and other professional experts to bring this campaign to the attention of Westminster as well as local politicians.
No Expressway Group believes there is no need for an Oxford-Cambridge Expressway, nor the over-inflated housing targets associated with it, and we will actively campaign against it and support other organisations with the same objectives.
Our environment is a national asset which is critical for everyone’s health and well-being. We must not let it be destroyed.
Your donations help us to spread information about the Expressway, run and build support for the campaign:

The No Expressway Group has a group bank account to which the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are signatories. The group will publish accounts on noexpressway.org each year which will be audited by an accountant from outside the NEG group.
