Concerned about the Ox-Cam expressway? "Go home and take some tablets" advises Cherwell DC Leader Barry Wood.
Thank you to everyone who came last night to pack out the Launton Village Hall last night!
We were pleased that Cllrs Barry Wood and David Hughes were able to join the meeting. However, we would like to clarify a couple of points:
Cllr Barry Wood, Leader of Cherwell District Council, reminded us that it is "important to be rooted in reality".
We couldn't agree more and ask that he and other Cherwell Cllr's realise that an ambition to build 300,000 homes along the corridor by 2030s and then another 300,000 by 2040 and ANOTHER 300,000 by 2050 is not rooted in reality!
The Office of National Statistic's growth forecast for England's population is 16% by 2050. But Cllr Barry Wood wants you to believe that Oxon should grow by >100% and Bucks by >87% by 2050. Shouldn't our Local Authority growth forecasts be "rooted in reality too"? And no mention at all of what this would do to our environment, communities etc? More reality needed here! 🙂
Cllr Barry Wood also said "If you thought what you heard here tonight was realistic,.......... you need to go home and take some tablets".
We think he might have been referring to NEG's presentation not his own! Well what do you say to that? This is not a time to be rude or flippant. It's a time to inform and understand what is being proposed so everyone can make up their own mind and take an active role in public consultation when it finally happens.
NEG aims to raise people's awareness of plans, something our Councillors and Highways England, whose responsibility it is, have so far failed to do. Our presentation is based on the information released so far and conversations directly with Highways England. We're more than happy to detail all our reference sources for anyone who's interested. Feel free to get in touch (and that includes Cllr Wood, too).
