Cherwell District Council Motion - voted down December 16, 2019

Yet again CDC votes not to take a stand on the Ox-Cam Expressway

Do CDC Councillors really represent their constituents? Or are they following party orders?

CDC tonight voted against a motion to oppose the Ox-Cam Expressway, with 26 Against, 15 For and 1 Abstention. A very disappointing, though sadly anticipated result.

During a later part of the Council meeting, debating changes to the Council’s Constitution, Leader of CDC Cllr Barry Wood said “everyone knows what the result of the vote is before they walk in the room”. WOW! Really? Does that mean the vote on the Expressway was ‘whipped’? What’s the point of having Council meetings and debates then? You might as well all vote online and save us all a lot of money and time! This really is a worrying perspective and sad day for our supposed to be our democratic process! Listen for yourself from 3 hrs 33 minutes here.

CDC voted to declare a climate emergency this year, yet does not recognise that the Ox-Cam Expressway wherever it might go and grossly over inflated target of one million houses across the Ox-Cam Arc will make reducing carbon emissions unachievable?

NEG has presented at 39 village and town meetings and events in 2019 across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and into Bedfordshire. At none of those meetings has the community or even part of the community expressed support for any of the Ox-Cam Expressway scheme or a target of 1 million houses. At all events the community has supported appropriate levels of housing growth for the local demand and sustainable transport such as East West Rail.

Why has CDC not had a single meeting to gather feedback from the CDC community regarding opinions of these proposals? Why is this left to NEG to do?

We urgently need your help.

Your donations are needed now, to help us run the campaign and pay for political consultants and other professional experts to bring this campaign to the attention of Westminster as well as local politicians.

No Expressway Group believes there is no need for an Oxford-Cambridge Expressway, nor the over-inflated housing targets associated with it, and we will actively campaign against it and support other organisations with the same objectives.

Our environment is a national asset which is critical for everyone’s health and well-being. We must not let it be destroyed.

Your donations help us to spread information about the Expressway, run and build support for the campaign:

  • £10 could pay for one roadside Correx poster

  • £15 could pay for one roadside poster on a wooden stake

  • £20 could pay for one A1 printed colour poster for our pagoda display

Please note:

The No Expressway Group has a group bank account to which the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are signatories. The group will publish accounts on noexpressway.org each year which will be audited by an accountant from outside the NEG group.

If any funds are left at the end of the campaign, these will be donated equally between RSPB and BBOWT.
