All the stations a new train line from Cambridge to Oxford will stop at

Cambridgeshire Live reports “There will likely be new homes built along the Oxford to Cambridge Arc too.” Well indeed! Robert Jenrick has repeated the target of one million houses across the Ox-Cam Arc, and Grant Shapps said this is still deliverable whether the Ox-Cam Expressway happens or not.

Cambridgeshire Live reports on the announcement of East West Rail (EWR) “Preferred Route Option” for the Bedford to Cambridge section. This follows eight weeks of public consultation in 2019. EWR will now go on to design detailed routes.

“New stations will be built in Cambourne and near St Neots as part of the developing Oxford-Cambridge Arc, the government announced. Minister for future of transport George Freeman, who visited Cambridge yesterday, said: “East-West Rail has the potential to improve rail links to support opportunities for new housing, reduce congestion and pollution, and unlock the economic potential across the region.

South Cambridgeshire MP Anthony Browne said he was “delighted” at the news, adding: “I have been campaigning for this route because it is best for local people, businesses and the environment. Commuters in Cambourne and the surrounding villages have been crying out for a rapid and reliable transport link into Cambridge and now they will get it.”

Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner “said he welcomed the announcement, adding: “The route presents major opportunities for jobs and housing and will help ease congestion in the city. But let’s go further. There is an opportunity to be bold in the midst of a climate emergency and have an electrified line and put it in public hands and run for the benefit of the public from the outset. He added “We also don’t need a road too” describing the Ox-Cam Expressway as a “20th century solution to a 21st century challenge. There is no logic in building a huge new motorway when we should be promoting public transport use. So my message to ministers is scrap the road and make the railway the best it can be.”

We totally agree with Mr Zeichner - Build the railway; Scrap the Expressway!

We urgently need your help.

Your donations are needed now, to help us run the campaign and pay for political consultants and other professional experts to bring this campaign to the attention of Westminster as well as local politicians.

No Expressway Group believes there is no need for an Oxford-Cambridge Expressway, nor the over-inflated housing targets associated with it, and we will actively campaign against it and support other organisations with the same objectives.

Our environment is a national asset which is critical for everyone’s health and well-being. We must not let it be destroyed.

Your donations help us to spread information about the Expressway, run and build support for the campaign:

Please note:

The No Expressway Group has a group bank account to which the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are signatories. The group will publish accounts on noexpressway.org each year which will be audited by an accountant from outside the NEG group.

If any funds are left at the end of the campaign, these will be donated equally between RSPB and BBOWT.
