MK Council Cabinet Meeting - Motion to Oppose Ox-Cam Expressway

MK Council logo.PNG

Will MK Council vote to oppose the Ox-Cam Expressway as AVDC, Bucks County Council and four Oxfordshire Councils have already done?

Cllr David Hopkins has tabled a motion to oppose the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway outright to be debated at MK Council’s Cabinet Meeting on 13th January.

MK Council has already moved it’s position from supportive of the Expressway and growth plans for the Ox-Cam Arc, to asking for the East West Rail link to be delivered first, and greater consideration given to the environment should the Ox-Cam Expressway then be assessed as warranted. Will the Councillors recognise the growing concern and opposition to these plans and oppose them as a Council?

Can you go and speak in support of Cllr Hopkins motion?

Time & Location: The meeting will be at 6.30pm at Council Chamber, Civic, 1 Saxon Gate East, Milton Keynes, MK9 3EJ

The full wording of Cllr Hopkins’ motion is:

“That in light of statements issued by the political parties nationally in advance of the recent General Election opposing the construction of a new (so called) Expressway from junction 13 of the M1 to Oxford with its potentially devastating consequences for communities across Milton Keynes, I invite the Cabinet to immediately issue a statement expressing this Council’s total and unequivocal opposition to the said Expressway and to call for the earliest possible delivery of a central electrified East West rail spine connecting Southampton to Sheffield, including Cambridge to Lowestoft, which would include an Oxford, Bletchley, Bedford and Cambridge link.”
