Letter from HM Treasury January 22, 2020
This is the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rishi Sunak’s, response to our letter to the Chancellor Sajid Javid of 12th January 2020.
We wrote to the Chancellor to ask him to announce the cancellation of the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway and over inflated housing target of one million new houses across the Arc in the 11th March budget.
We highlighted the weakness in the business case for the expressway and key areas that he and the Government have announced that make this the logical and appropriate step. Such as, announced priority of the environment in the budget and changes in Treasury rules to enable infrastructure investment in the North and Midlands.
The Government have talked a lot about redressing the balance of investment across the UK and investing outside the South East. Now is the time to prove the Government means what it says.

The No Expressway Group has a group bank account to which the Chair, Secretary and Treasurer are signatories. The group will publish accounts on noexpressway.org each year which will be audited by an accountant from outside the NEG group.
If any funds are left at the end of the campaign, these will be donated equally between RSPB and BBOWT.
