CDC Motion to Oppose Expressway - How will they vote?

At CDC Council Meeting on 16th December a motion to oppose the Ox-Cam expressway will be debated and voted on.

Will this follow results of the last vote? In October2019, CDC debated and voted to approve a motion to “wait and see” on the expressway, effectively preventing a substantive motion to oppose the expressway being debated. The vote went along party lines, with the all but one Conservative Councillors voting to “wait and see”, and all others voting against the motion..

Will CDC Councillors represent their communities and vote to oppose the Ox-Cam Expressway, or again follow CDC Leader Cllr Barry Wood’s lead?

How can CDC Conservative Councillors now vote against this motion when the Conservative party has said the economic case is so weak, and has promised a “review as a matter of priority” the Ox-Cam expressway?

Indeed, some Conservative Candidates in the general election, including re-elected MP for Henley John Howell, said during the campaign, that the Ox-Cam expressway was cancelled, but that this couldn’t be announced because of the Purdah period. So will CDC still feel the need to wait and see when government does not?

You can read the full motion proposed by Councillor Sean Woodcock which will be debated on 16th December here.

You can read Oxford Mail report on the October CDC motion and vote here.

CDC rules mean that another motion to oppose the expressway could not be brought for six months, “unless signatures or email from a recognised source from 8 councillors is received. The Director Law and Governance / Monitoring Officer has received 8 signatures and therefore confirms that the motion is valid.” Hence the new motion can be debated on 16th December.
