Layla Moran tables motion in Parliament for “comprehensive” Expressway consultation"
Today, Layla Moran MP for Oxford West and Abingdon, has tabled a motion in Parliament calling for “comprehensive public consultation on plans for the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway” which she says “must include the option of not progressing with the scheme” and calls for the consultation to include assessments of alternatives to the scheme including East West Rail.
Layla Moran says “If this Government is genuine about cutting carbon emissions, why on earth are they determined to continue with a policy of increased road capacity when all the evidence, including their own, shows that it will simply lead to more car and lorry traffic?”
We agree that everyone should be able to say No Expressway!
You can see more on this on Layla Moran’s website here.

This is the full text of the motion:
“That this House calls for a comprehensive public consultation on plans for the Oxford to Cambridge Expressway; calls for this consultation to include the option of not progressing with the scheme as well as assessments of alternatives to the scheme, including greater investment in cycling infrastructure and the expansion and electrification of the Oxford to Cambridge rail link as well as the Reading to Oxford line; recognises that some improvements to the A34 cannot happen whilst the Expressway project remains a possibility; and urges Highways England and the Government to publish a thorough environmental impact assessment as a matter of urgency.”

Our environment is a national asset which is critical for everyone’s health and well-being. We must not let it be destroyed.
